Hastening Christ....

In my daily devotions yoday, I read that I could hasten Christ's return by getting out there and making the Gospel known in all the world.
I find that very interesting and I must say I would love to do that. Personally, I don't think it will work mainly because I know God has a plan and a timetable. So many people are running around thinking that we are in the end times now and at any moment Christ will come back. We also have a group saying we are already in the Tribulation and Obama is the Antichrist....THAT I don't believe. Sure there were some interesting parallels....but he is not.

I was thinking last night about God's plan and I find it fascinating. Why did he have to have a plan anyway? Why couldn't it be that a person gets saved and then has a month to tell others, get things in order and then BOOM...up to heaven they go. I am thinking maybe more people would be apt to listen. There would be no question. If someone came up to me and said "Hey, let me tell you what happened to me. I met my Saviour and I put my trust in Him but I only have a month and then I get to go live with him. You should do that too" Then when they do leave...it would be interesting to say the least.

Either way....I am constantly looking at the clouds and picking out really goods ones he could come back on and longing to go home.

Sacrifices

That is what I was reminded of this past week.......sacrifice. No, I don't mean the virgin to the gods type of thing..the giving up of something for another. I am sure you have made one or two in your life. I know I have had my share of sacrifices and because of that I took a selfish turn and decided I was tired of it.

So, I volunteered at a local community theater to hand out programs and such. That was it...I got to see the show for free and I helped with the concessions and so forth. Here comes the problem...my husband was less than thrilled. You see, there is some history associated with said theater that is not rosy and bright. It really has nothing to do with the theater itself but with a certain individual who used to be quite involved there. Now.....that was 12 years ago. I know what you are thinking, "Dude, get over it" right? It's ok...I have thought the same thing myself. I have to say he is most like the woman who may forgive but will not forget.

Anyway....so he really didn't speak to me for a couple days. I was all wrapped up in my "get over it" attitude that I was getting more angry at him. I had done nothing wrong, the dude is never there anymore and I happen to LIKE the theater. Yes, I can see you are on my side....but wait.

The following saturday I attended a ladies meeting at an area church. It wasn't the usual "love your husbands, try not to kill your kids" It dealt with having a heart for the things of God. It was during those sessions that God showed me my selfish heart. I did try to point out the whole "just once why can't he sacrifice something for me" but God wasn't really worried about his heart at the moment. It was mine.

What it was was that even though I knew my husband had issues with this particular theater, I went ahead and did what I wanted to anyway. Thus not showing respect for him....or love. You see, that is what sacrifice is. That is what love is.....the SACRIFICIAL giving of ones self to the benefit of another with no thought of return. It's alot harder than it sounds. But in the end, it is sooooo worth it.
